The UFC’s annual July 4th weekend event is upon us and brings to fruition a fight that has been years in the making. Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber will finally end the trash talk and step into the cage to settle the dispute once and for all. As if that isn’t exciting enough, Saturday night will mark the return of MMA fan favorite Wanderlei Silva. I know that I have a habit of saying that every fight card excites me, but this one truly has me ready. Let’s take a look at the match-ups and get the “expert” picks of myself and Craig Nelson.

Main Event: Dominick Cruz(Bantamweight Champion) vs. Urijah Faber

Who Will Win: Cruz via Unanimous Decision

Why: Although Faber won the first meeting between these two, he’s not the same fighter he was 4 years ago. Cruz is in the prime of his fight career with his only loss coming to Faber, and has recently fought the best bantamweights in the world. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Urijah and enjoy watching him compete, but every fighter gets to a point where they have to pass the torch and Saturday night is that night for Faber.

Craig’s Pick: Faber

Co-Main Event: Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben

Who Will Win: Silva via TKO in Round 3

Why: Leben showed an aging chin against Brian Stann and there is no doubt that Wandy will take it for a test ride. Leben will be wobbly by the second round before Silva puts the finishing touch on the KO of the Night.

Craig’s Pick: Silva

Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader

Who Will Win: Bader via Unanimous Decision

Why: Ortiz will want to take this to the ground ASAP and when Bader realizes that he isn’t in there against Jonny Bones he will turn on the pressure. Tito hasn’t won a fight since 2006 and shouldn’t even be in the Octagon. On Saturday night Ryan Bader will retire Ortiz for good.

Craig’s Pick: Bader

Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Who Will Win: Conidt via Submission in Round 2

Why: It’s time for Condit to step into the top 3 Welterweights category. A win over unbeaten Kim will solidify that. Although he’s only 27, Carlos has a plethora of experience against some of the best fighters in the world. He’s always been on the cusp and it’s time to take the leap from pretender to contender.

Craig’s Pick: Condit

Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman

Who Will Win: Siver via KO in Round 3

Why: One of those vicious leg kicks that Siver throws is going to land viciously and put Wiman to sleep. Siver may be a lightweight but he strikes like a heavyweight. He is a dangerous opponent for anyone and will see his stock rise after yet another big win.

Craig’s Pick: Siver

As we celebrate our independence as a nation this weekend, one man will celebrate his independence as the Bantamweight champion with no asterisks next to his resume. Will Cruz eliminate Faber once and for all or will Faber once again reign supreme in his weight class? Is the ‘Axe Murderer’ back or is it time to ride off into the sunset? We will know the answers when Saturday night comes to a close.
