Now that the dust has settled on another UFC pay-per-view, we can look forward to what the future brings for the fighters involved. Let’s take a look at a few of the fighters and who their next opponents may be.
Junior Dos Santos: This one is pretty easy. His next fight will be for the UFC Heavyweight crown against Cain Velasquez this fall.
Shane Carwin: With 2 straight losses now on his resume it may be time to go back to the drawing board a bit. There is no doubt that he is still one of the top 10 fighters in the division, but it may be time to take on someone at the low end of the top 10 to rebuild some confidence. Roy Nelson, Pat Barry, Cheick Kongo could all be lurking for a shot at Carwin.
Kenny Florian: Although Dana White said it its likely he may get a title shot against featherweight king Jose Aldo, I would like to see a Florian/Mendes fight to determine the #1 contender first. Either way there’s a big battle awaiting “KenFlo”.
Mark Munoz: There is one fight that is a home run here…Brian Stann. There is nothing I like better than to watch 2 guys trade hands, and this would be a chance for both men to put themselves in line for the middleweight belt.
Donald Cerrone: I said in our prediction article that “Cowboy” was headed for the elite of the lightweight division and it’s time to put him to the test. So many names out there for him to face, but a few that might make sense are Siver/Wiman winner, Jeremy Stephens, and Sean Sherk.
The fighters from last night can now move on to another challenge and in today’s UFC, every match is the toughest of their lives. The results of last night have some guys headed for the top, some rethinking their strategies, and some looking for work. The life of an MMA fan continues to be exciting, as next weekend we welcome in the athletes from Strikeforce to entertain us. We will focus all week on Zuffa’s other promotion and look ahead to the continuation of the Heavyweight Grand Prix.
