The first Main Event in MSG should be….?

Yesterday the New York State Senate passed a bill legalizing MMA in the state. Although it still has to pass in the Assembly and be signed off on by the Governor, the realization that we could see the sport in America’s third largest state is becoming more and more realistic.

Of course that leads to what may be the ultimate card in UFC history. But my question to you is, who would you want to headline that card? When a fight is put on in MSG it better be big. I don’t want to see No.1 contender matches or even a non-title fight between 2 legends. I want the biggest fight that MMA has to offer.

At this moment there is only 1 correct answer for that matchup. Jon “Bones” Jones vs. Rashad Evans. First off you are able to keep with what the UFC prefers, to have a main event fighter have a connection to the location of the fight(Jones is from New York) in order to promote the event locally. And secondly, this fight is going to be HUGE. Both fighter have developed a distaste for the other and have gone to Twitter to engage in a war of words. Also, last weekend there was an altercation between the two at the UFC fighter summit that had to be broken up by Georges St. Pierre.

How much better could a main event be? Both fighters have as many fans as detractors, and there’s nothing like building up a main event with a little trash talk, Sonnen vs. Silva anyone? Let’s get MMA sanctioned in New York and get this match booked ASAP.

What do you think should be the main event?
